Book Discussion #12 – Bleak House

Hi Restless Spirit!

We will gather again for Book Discussion session. After Tegang Bentang, we will continue to discussing a book titled Bleak Houses: Disappointment and Failure in Architecture.

Bleak House was written by the author, Timothy Brittain-Catlin, after his return to England, as he found himself become dispassionate with contemporary architecture. This book investigates stories of unfulfillment, and false narrative to covers failures of architecture.

As the critict’s value diminishing, critics subjecting buildings to Victorian litmus test of “real” versus “fake, in which influenced not only the architectural discourse but the overall quality of buildings.

We will see why some architects fail to realize their ideal buildings, and what architecture critics can learn from novelists.

This discussion will be lead by Riswanda Setyo Addino and Fariska Shani Wijaya.
