Hi, Restless Spirits!

This Saturday, 24th February 2018, at 01.00 PM, We will gather again for Mitsuha Abe’s first book launching “Bali Aga House”. Moderated by Realrich Sjarief

Bali Aga are considered as indigenous people of Bali who have lived isolated on the mountains for a long time before Majapahit came under the reign of Javanese princes who were then settled on the lowlands. They are less influenced by Hindu-Buddha culture compared to Majapahit. Hence, we can find a more animistic way of life embedded in their vernacular housing.

This book is a collection of the origins of all the factors involved in their houses, the simple construction methods, the hidden design details, the composition of conventional space, and the bamboo tools in Pedawa, as well as the behaviour of human and the natural light around the traditional house. These contents are composed of what we can witness now in the village. This work is written for anyone beyond the fields and generations and has a high possibility to be applied to our modern life and dwelling. It is not a record about the vanishing of traditional houses or a literature written by researcher for researchers.
