Book Discussion #03 – Simulacra and Simulation

Hi Restless Spirit!
We will gather again for Book Discussion session. After last discussion about of Daniel Libeskind, we will continue to learn about Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard. It will be presented by Rezki D.K and Regina Chandra.

In the midst of postmodern era, Jean Baudrillard’s Simulacra Simulation talked about the question of reality. Nowadays, we are streamed with a vast amount pf information on what is happening around us. This information will form our perspectives about the reality of what we lived in. But what if that the whole variables that formed that particular perspectives were only representations of what is real? Moreover, what if that representation is actually not presenting the truth at all, that it was distorted?

“The simulacrum is never hides the truth– it is the truth that hides the fact that there is none. The simulacrum is true” – Ecclesiastes

In the book Simulacra Simulation, Jean Baudrillard’s famous theory will be learnt through several examples of simulacrum (plural words of simulacra) that we were not unfamiliar with including the role of media as an instrument of simulacrum. We started from its history, the definition of the term simulacra, its progression and how it affected the society through times, and its effect as a whole in the perspectives of Baudrillard.

Simulacra Simulation used to be a wakeup call of how we viewed our world and ourselves. A trigger for us as an individual to understand our role in this ‘world’, or at least, a catalyst to understand deeper about things, to understand the truth of simulacrum, and ultimately managed our perspectives and preference towards a true significance.

The discussion will be held on
