Hello Restless spirit!

It’s been a month since Titik Awal Exhibition began. OMAH Library is proud to exhibit the final projects of 18 Indonesian architecture professionals and scholars. We had a grand opening in January 22, 2017 with so many curious registered restless spirits. And now as a grand closure, we will hold not one, but three bittersweet memories sessions featuring 3 of all participants. These three professional architects will share their stories weaving dreams and hope in building design while in their last semester of learning years.

Suwardana Winata is a well known individual even before his graduation from Tarumanegara University in 1997. As a student, he served as chairman of architecture major student council (IMARTA) where he spent time actively spoke about pedagogical changes. Enter the Final Project, he choose Art Theater within general topic of Indonesian culture.
Art Theater was planned on Kuningan, South Jakarta. It was inspired from Theater Koma “Semar Menggugat”, which took its origin from traditional Java skin puppet’s character. Semar is a bulky, wise, and mystic personage whom leads Punakawan; the quartet consist of himself, Petruk, Gareng, and Bagong. Rectangle dominance that preceived from plans, elevation, and section of his work aimed to propose the quality of “balance”. In contrast with majority of his peers, he choose to produce work from detail to general with Stirling-like axonometry which is not common on his campus. Apart from this project, his transistion from Final Project to surviving in monetary crisis era is to be understood as part of architectural nuance in late ‘98.

Andra Matin finished his bachelor study from Parahyangan University in 1990. While working his Final Project, he choose to postpone his graduation for a semester to conversed with expertise about his project. In design process he focused on form making exploration instead of technical (quantity of product and its detail) or even quality of his research paper. His Final Project titled “Pusat Dokumentasi Arsitektur”.
Pusat Dokumentasi Arsitektur is an archive building, gallery, and association office for architectural apprenticeship purpose. This project was unprecendented, hence made it hard to be accepted as Final Project. The site located in Depok, next to University of Indonesia to support its primary purpose. In concept, the design work as metaphore of flow of water and knowledge. There are primer axis that connects main hall and classroom with a rotunda as main entrance, modeled after cerebrum of knowledge that adjoined with semi-permanent gallery. This project most inspired by various form of Indonesian roof which became primary asset that he kept exploring until now.
