Public Lecture #17 – Creativity 2.0

Omah library kindly invited you to David Hutama’s lecture: “Creativity 2.0, In Problem Solving Operation”

Ivan Chermayeff said, “Design is directed toward human beings. To design is to solve human problems by identifying them and executing the best solution.” In designing, we need to know the problem, identifying, planning, make a concept, implementing it in products, and evaluating. The following process is necessary so that the products are designed to be good and it can be a solution to the problems. Because of the various layers of the problem, the product can’t be a solution and often exacerbate the problem. Need creativity to deal with the problem.

Richard Fobes said, “All innovations begin as creative solutions, but not all creative solutions become innovations.” Comprehension and sensitivity are needed in presenting creative solutions. As it is emphasized in the Pak David Hutama’s lecture earlier, creativity is about the contribution. When it is not acceptable, it cannot give impact, and failed.

There are many methods to solve the problem, such as make an interlude of mind, re-framing the problem (re-find the essential thing), make multiple ideas to find the best solution, and changing perspective (use the opposite to think). It is just a technique, but we need to learn it, forget it, let it “Flow”.

Albert Einstein said “We can not solved the problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Invention doesn’t always begin with an idea to solve the problems, but the problems will come by itself. We will create it naturally. Rather than hostile to the problem why don’t we enjoy the problem?
