Public Lecture #09 – Urban design and Its Relationship with Architecture

After the three courses held in the past three months, OMAH in collaboration with UPH Architecture this time would like to invite you to the fourth! Denis Indramawan will share about “Urban Design and Its Relationship with Architecture” on Saturday, 11th April at 10AM to 12PM.

In this lecture, we seek to understand the meaning and implications of set back line in architecture, building massing, floor aspect ratio , and urban design guideline to achieve social value.

Denis Indramawan  is a lecturer in UPH Architecture in subjects related to Architecture and Urban Design. After receiving his bachelor degree in Universitas Parahyangan in 1999, he continued his study in Urban Design in TU DELFT Netherland. He now practices architecture in Sonny Sutanto Architect. He, with Yulianti Tanyadji, co-edited “Context: Student Projects in Urban Context in Architecture and Urban Workshop” in 2009.

This is one part of architecture short course program called: “HOW TO THINK LIKE AN ARCHITECT”

Architecture, architectural are sometimes used in daily conversation to describe a way of building something or system or thing that does not have relationship with building and profession of architect. Architect as profession is a protected by law has a responsiblity to create a comfortable, safe built environment which define a way to create good building. To define one good building is not easy, there are various factor such as how the innovation building system addressed by, how the building responding to the philosophy, urban – rural location, and art context. These key factors will define the architecture based our our specific culture and climate which will be key considerations on this short architecture course.

We are gladly to inform that OMAH will host one semester in next 6 months. The lectures will shape basic understanding on how to think like an architect.To think like an architect, the lecture will address key factor stated above, such as:

– Architect as profession by David Hutama on 31 January 2015. it consists set of capability which striving a mastery to understand each phase of design from conceptual, schematic, construction drawing to site supervision. It’s one way to be responsible of what architect’s draws, to understand the design and product, thought and drawing.

– Experimenting architecture by Setia Sopandi on 14 February 2015 , understanding innovation in architecture, one construction and another deconstruction as matter of tectonics in building system and phenomenology in history.

– Design Behaviour setting by Avianti Armand on 14 March 2015, in relationship of one space to another to accommodate specific culture, programs and the need of good social value.

– Urban Design and its relationship with architecture by Dennis Indramawan on 11 April 2015 , in understanding the meaning and implications of set back line in architecture, building massing, Floor aspect ratio , and urban design guideline to achieve social value.

– Ethics in architecture by Endy Subijono on 9 May 2015 as obligation to serve society, a question for technics to help people to create social house. Do we need participation in architect’s profession or are we mislead the term participation in architecture. How the profession established in other countries to address the need of architects. Participation or isolation in architect’s profession.

– About Architecture Studio by Sonny Sutanto on 6 June 2015 , in understanding types of architecture firm. We need to look into how the architects forming the practice and raise the question to understand in specific about what is needed for the future considering various types of projects, typology, and demand of architect’s role to create beautiful built environment.

Its all about sharing How to think like an architect.. Its all discussing the possible answer of :

What is and How architect’s as profession evolve ?
What is needed for preparing yourself to understand or be good architect?
How to establish a best practice architect’s profession as development of best architecture quality in Indonesia?
Why architect as profession is important ? or what is the ethic to maintain good architect’s profession among one another which is public to architect or client to architect, or architect to architect as collegue ?

OMAH in collaboration with UPH Architecture intends to strengthen knowledge of architecture. The lecture is free and open for everyone.
